Dexter is a Shadow and a merchant in the Old Camp. He can be found in the market district.
Gothic
Dexter sells potions and swampweed from the Swamp Camp on the market place of the Old Camp. He has many customers including Guards which makes him rather influential.
If the Nameless Hero has not yet joined a camp, Dexter gives him the task of obtaining Cor Kalom's recipe for a healing potion, so that he can create the potions himself.
Quests
Gothic II
When the Barrier collapsed Dexter tried to escape from the Valley of Mines but the king's soldiers drove him into a trap. When his situation seemed hopeless a Seeker appeared out of the darkness and offered him help. He helped him escape from the valley and offered him 1000 gold pieces in exchange for the Nameless Hero's head.
Dexter gathered a group of Bandits living in and around towers near Onar's farm. They distributed wanted posters with the Hero's face on them.
Near the start of the game on the way from Xardas's tower to the city Khorinis an unnamed bandit with such a wanted poster tries to lure the Hero into a trap, but he can be convinced to give up Dexter's name instead. Knowing this name the Hero can go to Dexter's hideout and confront him. Dexter tells him about the encounter with the seeker and gives him a last chance to leave without a fight. If the Hero has not learned Dexter's name or talks to him again after the last warning, Dexter and the whole group of bandits attack the Hero with the intent of killing him.

In Night of the Raven the seeker backstory has been scrapped. Instead Dexter is working for Raven and on his orders is looking for Nameless Hero.
