Factions in Gothic

This is a list of all the factions in Gothic.

Structure

All the three major camps have three joinable factions each. First you can join one of the starting factions. Later in the game you can choose between combat faction, which is focused on meelee or ranged non-magic combat, or magic faction, which is focused on spells.

Old Camp

  • Ore Barons - Rulers of the Old Camp, made out of people that had the greatest part in the Great Uprising. Responsible for the trade with the outisde world, exchanging magic ore for various goods. Gomez is the leader of the Ore Barons, and therefore the entire camp.
  • Fire Mages - They reside in the chapel inside the Castle, practicing magic and occasionally communicating with the outside world, generously rewarding their couriers. An accomplished Shadow can choose to join the Circle of Fire with the approval of master Corristo.
  • Guards - The main force acting on behalf of the Ore Barons. Guards are responsible for keeping the order in the Old Camp, protecting it's inhabitants, especially those that pay protection fees. Thorus acts as leader of the guards.
  • Shadows - Fully admissioned members of the Old Camp. They partake in activities like hunting, thieving, hosting businesses and occasionally taking care of delicate matters for the Ore Barons. Diego acts as de-facto leader of Shadows]]
  • Diggers - The lowest group in hierarchy of the Old Camp. Diggers are tasked with mining the Magic Ore inside the Old Mine, oftenly under harsh, life-threatening conditions, all for inadequate pay. They are also prone to abuse from the Guards, being forced to pay for protection.

New Camp

  • Rogues - Mainly consisting of thieves and hunters. Some of them are organizing raids on the convoys from the Old Camp, escalating tensions between camps. Few of them are chosen to act as couriers for the Magicians of Water. Lares is the leader of the gang.
  • Mercenaries - Fighters working for the Magicians of Water in exchange for the prospect of freedom. Lee is their informal leader.
  • Water Mages - Magicians living in the restricted area of the New Camp. They have a plan for removing the Magic Barrier.
  • Scrapers - Miners working in the Free Mine. Most of the ore goes towards the Ore Mound required for the the escape plan, and getting a small share of that as payment once a month. Swiney is the main engineer overseeing the excavations.
  • Peasants - least prestigious group in the camp. They work on the Rice Fields, oftenly by coercion from Rice Lord and his thugs, like Lefty.
