Isgaroth

The Fire Mages are an old order of priests venerating Innos the god of fire and order. They see themselves as chosen ones of Innos.

Origin

About one thousand years ago Innos gave humans the ability to hear him. He also gave them magic to perform great miracles. But now everyone was equal and some did not like that. So Innos took the power from the unsatisfied. The ones that continued to use magic became his priests and the first fire mages.

Water Mages

In the book 'Words of the gods volume 3' we learn that the order of the Magicians of Water came into being when dissatisfied priests of Innos started to pray to Adanos and the two factions separated.

Colony

To create the barrier of Khorinis six of the most powerful fire mages were chosen:

All of them were eventually also trapped inside the barrier.

After the collapse of the barrier

On his mission to find the Eye of Innos the Hero had to enter the monastery of fire in the valley of Khorinis.

On the mainland

The Hero also encountered the last survivors of the mainland fire mages; in Reddock, Geldern, Nemora, Okara, in Vengard and in their monastery in Nordmar.

Monestaries

The Monasteries of the mages are used to train their novices to one day (maybe) become fire mages themselfs.

There are two known monasteries of fire:

  • One on the island of Khorinis
  • And one in the north west of Nordmar

The one in Nordmar is known to be built around the time of king Rhobar I. The Khorinis monastery is said to be "ancient".

Temples

In the land of Myrtana the bigger cities have or used to have a temple of Innos. There was one in the capital city Vengard, one in Montera, one in Geldern and one in Faring.

The temples were used by the citizens to pray and by the fire mages to create their magical runes.

Ranks

When someone joins the circle of fire, they start as a novice and need to serve for a time. After maybe a few years the novice gains the right to study the scriptures.

The council will proclaim the will of Innos and some novices are chosen to partake in the 'test of magic'. The winner of the test will become a fire mage.

Fire mages that became wise and powerful will eventually become high mages and wear the robe of a high mage.
