Effect
For the residents of Swamp Camp, swampweed is collected and used in order to establish strong contact with the Sleeper. It also expands consciousness and provides a relaxing effect.
It contains substances that, on the one hand, strengthen the magical powers and, on the other hand, can give the consumer the impression of slowed time. However, this is accompanied by significant vision impairment. The effect can be achieved by smoking several weak stalks in a row or 1 Dremcall.
The members of the Brotherhood of the Sleeper and magicians from other orders use these mind-altering properties to strengthen magic capabilities during rituals.
In addition, bloodflies seem to like swampweed.
Cultivation
Swampweed prefers wet to flooded soils, which is why it's usually found in swamps. It grows all around the island of Khorinis and Myrtana. It grows not only in the large swamps, but also on the numerous ponds and lakes.

However, it also grows outside of swamps. The gardener of Lago bred it on the sediment bottom at the edge of the desert. According to him, fresh breezes and strong sunlight are enough to make the herb grow.
Swampweed can be further processed into stalks. The novices of the Brotherhood stomped the herb with mashers. There were always three novices working on it in shifts.
There are three different varieties of the stalks in circulation in the colony:

Dreamcall is the most expensive and strongest stalk, while Green Novice provides the least effect.
In Khorinis, swampweed circulates only in a simple nameless variant. It serves as an everyday drug, which is especially taken among the mercenaries of Onar's Farm and in the port of Khorinis.
On the continent, a weed stalk is called "Black Rhobar". However, swampweed that grows here seems to lack the mind-altering effect. However, they strengthen magical power and relaxation.
History
Six years ago, the Sleeper spoke to Y'Berion for the first time and led him and some followers to the swamp. There the deamon showed them swampweed's effect. From then on, the Brotherhood started its intentional cultivation.
Gothic

Swampweed is a base of economy in Swamp Camp. It is found in the eastern part of the Colony. Nameless Hero can help the Brotherhood by delivering the collected herbs to Cor Kalom as part of a quest. The collected herb is processed in pots, and then folded into stalks. These stalks are either smoked by all Swamp Camp members or sold in other camps and even to the outer world.
Gothic II
Swampweed can be occasionally found on Khorinis, most often near swamps and lakes. It looks the same as in Gothic. The plant and its stalks are forbidden in the city due to its negative effects for body and consciousness, which would be extremely harmful during orc invasion or mercenary attack. Therefore, in Khorinis, the illegal swampweed trade is flourishing.

If Nameless Hero joins militia, Lord Andre will order him to investigate the roots of illegal trade and eliminate drugdealers. Swampweed also attracted the attention of Igaraz, for whom Babo was supposed to grow it illegally in the monastery, and the gardener of the governor Larius, whose plant did not want to grow in the garden near the city hall. Swampweed stalks are also requested by Vatras for the ritual, hovewer it's not obligatory for the recovery process itself. In addition, at Onar's farm Dar the thief stole a package of swampweed from Cipher and sold it in Khorinis.
In Gothic II, there is only one kind of stalk called "a stalk of swampeed". The plant itself can be used at the alchemical table to produce stalks. If combine swampweed with apple tobacco, the player can get a weed tobacco. Swampweed is also used to create "Sleep" rune.
Swampweed can be consumed in raw. It leads to a flash and slow down for 30 seconds. Swampweed can be sold for 3 gold and bought for 10 gold.
Gothic II: Night Of The Raven
Additional plants can be found in Jharkendar. A former Swamp Camp novice, Fortuno, is situated in bandits camp and buys unlimited amount of swampweed for 10 gold and 10 exp points each.
In addition, you can create a "Green novice" stalk from the previous game in alchemy, mixing swampweed with field yeast. It's required in one of the quests to help Fortuno remember the past. The plant is also an ingredient of Hammer Lou.
Swampweed can be sold for 2 gold, which is lower than in Gothic II Classic.
Gothic 3
On the continent, swampweed can rarely be found on the Myrtana coast and near Silden. Large fields of swampweed can be found in Lago. Rasul, the owner of one of such fields, says that deserts are perfect for swampweed cultivation. The herbs grown in Lago are wraped in packs. Vasco, Emet and Lester are asked to deliver the packages. The package is also one of the possible gifts for Gonzales. In any ending, Lester cultivated its own swampweed plantation in Braga.
In Gothic 3, the only available type of swampweed stalk is "Black Rhobar", but it cannot be made at the alchemy table.
Swampweed appearance is more detalized, as you can see its leaves and yellow flowers. It provides no effect after consumption. One plant can be sold for 3 gold and bought for 10 gold.

On Argaan, swampweed grows in the Tooshoo area, to the south of the Tree. A part of swampweed in this area belongs to Lester.
