The 1249th edition of a magazine called Yps contained a small figure called Der schlüpfende Gobbo or The hatching gobbo in English. There is no reference to Gothic anywhere on the figure or in the magazine. However the figure has a strong resemblance to the Goblins of Gothic and goblins were still called gobbos at the time. Also many of these figures were present in the Piranha Bytes studio further indicating a link.
The figure shows the gobbo wielding a stick emerging from an egg. It was made out of a rubbery substance, which would go back to its original form, no matter how much you squashed and deformed it.
