Thorus' Quest is a quest in Gothic. The guard Thorus asks the player to get rid off the rogue Mordrag. Completing it will help you to join the Old Camp.
How to obtain the quest
First ask Diego about joining the Old Camp. He will send you to Thorus. Thorus is guarding the entrance of the castle of the Old Camp almost all day. Ask Thorus about working for Gomez and repeatedly ask about getting a task from him. Eventually he will give you one and tell you to get rid off Mordrag.
How to solve the quest
You find Mordrag at the broken tower, which functions as the south gate of the camp. If you walk around the outer ring, you will surely find him. He wears a blue armor and talks to you automatically the first time you meet him.
Note that if you mention Thorus' name to Mordrag you will fail the quest, even if you kill him afterwards.
There are several possible ways to solve the quest:
Going to the New Camp
Tell Mordrag that he is in trouble and ask him about the New Camp. He offers to bring you to the New Camp. Accept this offer and follow him. He will kill all the monsters on the way, but you'll still get all the experience for them. At the destination he will give you his ring, which can help you get to Lares. Or you can simply sell it.
Now return to the Old Camp and report to Thorus.
Defeating him
Beating Mordrag up as a beginner is not easy. The sum of your strength and the damage of your weapon needs to exceed 30 to be able to deal any damage to him.
You can also use Jackal! Pay him 10 ore protection money and then start a fight with Mordrag and Jackal will intervene on your behalf.
If you knock Mordrag down, wait until he gets back up and you will automatically talk to him and tell him to get lost. You can then also go to Fisk and get a quest from him.
Whether he is dead or has run away, return to Thorus and report.
The optimal solution
First let Mordrag escort you to the New Camp and get his ring. Then beat him up and tell him to get lost afterwards. Then kill him.
You now get the best of all possible solutions: the 200 experience points for Mordrag's escort, Mordrag's ring, Fisk's quest and the extra 50 experience points for killing him.
Rewards
When you report that Mordrag is no longer in the camp you receive 250 experience points.
When you report that Mordrag is dead you receive 300 experience points
In both cases you'll receive 5 points towards Admission to the Old Camp
Diary entries
- Thorus asked me to remove a rogue called Mordrag from the Camp. It's up to me how I do it. But nobody must find out that Thorus is involved.
- Mordrag is at the south gate at the back of the castle.
- I knocked Mordrag out and told him I never wanted to see him in the Old Camp again.
- Thorus didn't like the fact that I told Mordrag his name. I don't think I need to turn up at his place for a while.
- Thorus is happy that Mordrag is not in the Camp any longer.
- Thorus was impressed that I got Mordrag out of the way. A clear bonus for me.
Trivia
- If you mention Thorus's name to Mordrag, you fail the quest and lose 5 points towards Admission to the Old Camp.
- This quest is intertwined with Admission to the New Camp. When Mordrag escorts you to the New Camp and gives you a ring, you can use this ring to be able to talk to Lares and give it to Lares to gain points towards the admission to the New Camp.
- This quest is intertwined with New Fence for Fisk. If you beat up Mordrag and tell him to get lost, you can get this quest from Fisk.
