The Water Mages are the priest of Adanos and the spiritual leaders of the nomads of Varant. They see themselves as chosen ones of Adanos.
Origin
In the book 'Words of the gods volume 3' we learn that the order of the Magicians of Water came into being when dissatisfied priests of Innos started to pray to Adanos and the two factions separated. The two parties fought for a time until peace came to be.
The water mages became the priest of the nomads after they returned to their tradition of wandering.
Colony
To create the Barrier of Khorinis King Rhobar II asked the water mages to help with the project and they heard his call and came to Khorinis. The mage's names were:
The mages Vatras also traveled to Khorinis but did not actively help with the creation. So all of them, except Vatras, were eventually also trapped inside the Barrier.
Vatras stayed in the city of Khorinis and preached in a shrine.
After the collapse of the barriere
Vatras was still in his small temple and only left shortly to help repair the Eye of Innos.
The other six mages discovered ancient ruins in the north east of the valley of Khorinis and a portal there that lead to forgotten valley on the island. There they found old ruins of bygone civilazation and studied them.
Vatras accoumpanied the Hero to Irdorath.
On the mainland
Before the orcs took the whole island Khorinis, the mages used their focus stones for a teleportation ritual to return home. The stones remained on Khorinis.
Merdarion, Riordian, Saturas, Myxir and Vatras returned to the nomads in Varant. Nefarius studied a legend of the hero Haran Ho and Cronos walked the desert in search of enlightenment.
Ring of Water
The Ring of Water was a secret organisation; agents of the water mages. They were like the paladins to the fire mages. The Ring existed even before the orc war and the creation of the barrier.
Temples
The Magicians of Water don't seem to build shrines or temples for Adanos. The only exception was Vatras who used a shrine while staying in Khorinis.
The mages are nomads who don't stay long in one place. They couldn't maintain a temple but it is not known why there are no statues built by the nomads.
Ranks
It is not known how one normally joins the circle of water. There seem to be no novices like in the monasteries of fire. In the new camp a mercenary could join the circle but that's the same with the fire mages in the old camp. There a capable shadow could join without being a novice.
There is a dark blue robe worn by water mages and after a time the mage can become a high magician with slightly lighter blue robe.
