Nek was a Guard of the Old Camp.

Background

Nek was responsible for the arena district. He did his last round of collecting protection money just before he disappeared. Fletcher has since taken over his job.
Nek went to collect mushrooms for Snaf's meatbug ragout, but hasn't come back. Snaf says that Nek was discontent with the Old Camp and is probably in the New Camp now.

Gothic

The Shadow Sly asks the Nameless Hero to find out where Nek has disappeared to and says he might have gone over to the New Camp while Diego doesn't believe that Nek went to the New Camp.
You can find his corpse in a cave just outside of the south gate of the Old Camp. His corpse is in a cave with 3 molerats and has a protection amulet with NEK engraved on it on it.
When you tell Sly that you found Nek, he doesn't seem to actually care about what happened to him and only cares about the amulet, even becoming angry with you if you don't give it to him.

Quests

Trivia

  • When found in the cave, he only has 10 ore. Regular protection payment is 10 ore (Bloodwyn and Jackal both ask for 10 ore). He must have had more than 10 ore nuggets, if he took protection money from multiple people shortly before his disappearance. That can mean that somebody may have robbed him, killed him and tried to frame it as death by molerats. However, Mike Hoge addressed the question in an interview and said it is just as it seems.[1]
